Dr Wright has worked in psychiatry since 2003. He is on the GMC specialist register as a General Adult Psychiatrist with an endorsement in Rehabilitation Psychiatry. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, a Master of Science in Psychiatry, Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a Certificate of Completion of Training. He has trained and worked in the NHS in both community and inpatient settings gaining experience in older persons psychiatry, learning disability, child and adolescent psychiatry as well as forensic psychiatry. His most recent roles have been as a consultant psychiatrist leading a busy community mental health team and supporting a prison mental health service. He assesses and treats patients with mood disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, autism spectrum disorders in addition to anxiety disorders and personality disorder. He is particularly good at explaining the nature of various diagnoses and helping people understand how interventions work. He writes psychiatric reports for court cases and works effectively within the mental health act. He is well versed in technology and mental health. He helped design and created content for the Online MSc in Psychiatry at Cardiff University. He represents the Royal College of Psychiatrists on the MHRA expert advisory group on artificial intelligence, software and apps. He has been on the Health Technology Wales Appraisal panel and had also made it to the third round of the prestigious IBM Watson Artificial Intelligence XPRIZE.
